PTE is a Pearson Language Test introduced by the Pearson PLC Group dedicated to assess and validate the English language usage of non-native English speakers. The Pearson Language tests include PTE Academic, PTE General (formerly London Tests of English), and PTE Young Learners (formerly London Tests of English for Children). All these scenario based Exams are accredited by the QCA and administered in association with Edexcel, the UK’s largest examining body.

PTE Academic

The Pearson Test of English Academic is a computer-based academic English language test aimed at non-native English speakers wanting to study abroad. This PTE Academic Test assess the Reading, Writing, Listening and Speaking skills of a test taker to provide admission in a university-level English language instruction program. The Pearson Test of English Academic is endorsed by the Graduate Management Admission Council and the PTE Scores are accepted by the London Business School in the UK, Harvard Business School, Stanford Graduate School of Business, and Yale University in the United States. And some other institutions in other countries like Spain, France and China have also accept PTE Academic Scores. Not only the Universities but also some leading business schools including INSEAD and HEC Paris in France, IESE, IE Business School and ESADE in Spain and SDA Bocconi in Italy accepts PTE Scores for admission. In addition to the business schools, there are also a number of arts and music colleges who accept the exam’s scores.

PTE General

The PTE General Exam is developed by Pearson Language Tests as an international English language exams for speakers of English as a foreign language (EFL). It is administered by Edexcel and the exams are accredited by QCA, (the Qualification and Curriculum Authority). The Pearson Test of English General are theme-based exams designed to assess how well a learner can communicate in authentic and realistic situations. So the PTE General test mainly use real-life scenarios rather than grammatical exercises. There are six levels in this Exam which are mapped to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages. And the frame work of this Exam was developed by Council of Europe to enable language learners, teachers, universities or potential employers to compare and relate language qualifications by level. This test mainly conducted to assess the Reading, writing, listening and speaking skills of a candidates and all these skills are tested at all six levels.

PTE Young Learner Test

Unlike PTE Academic & General, PTE Young Learner test is an English language exam designed for young children (aged from 7 to 12) who are learning English as a foreign language (EFL). Like the above tests it also assess the candidates reading, writing, listening and speaking skills. This exams are theme based and designed to be fun and motivating. It mainly aims at how well the children can use language to complete communicative tasks. Because of this reason it mainly concentrates on the usage of real-life scenarios rather than grammatical exercises.

 

PTE Test Format

The PTE Academic Test consists of three main parts to assess the listening, reading, speaking and writing skills. The speaking and writing (together) will be in one section followed by listening and reading sections. The test taker should complete all sections in 3 hours. In all four sections there will be twenty different question formats ranging from multiple choice through to essay writing and interpreting information. You will use a computer and headset to listen to, read and respond to questions.

You can register through the online for PTE Exam and can schedule the test using a flexible ‘choose and book’ system. To take the Pearson Language test an exam fee of Rs. 10,900/- should pay in India. Upon cancellation of a test either one week prior to the test day or more, 50% fee is refunded.
